PIOTR MATEUSZ WACH

dancer at ROZBARK Dance and Movement Theatre in Bytom. Graduate of the Ludwik Solski State Theatre School in Kraków, Dance Theatre Department in Bytom and Kraków Lart Studio. He comes from Kielce.

In 2013, he performed in a dance diploma Transdiptych by Anna Piotrowska and played the main role in a diploma performance As You Like It by Brian Michaels. He co-created and performed in the following shows: Anna Piotrowska’s democratic body (2015), Lost in the Skin (2015) and Mikołaj Mikołajczyk’s  Project Decalogue: Feudal Imaginery (2015). He cooperates with a Polish-German collective little:interference. Together they created Heimsuchung/Visitation (2012), Operculum (2013) and Jetzt|Now (2014). Wach was also an assistant of director Błażej Peszek during the work on a diploma performance for the Dance Theatre Superheroes 10/9 (2015).

 

He is also advancing his carrier as a soloist. In the last three years, he created Body Triptych: three solo performances, which touch upon the subject of body iconization in the context of contemporary culture and society. The triptych was concluded with The Rite of Spring, which Wach created in cooperation with an Icelandic artist Helena Jónsdóttir (2015). His next performance was Richard. The Body of Anger, which premiered during the 19th Shakespeare Festival in Gdańsk. It received the “Golden Skull” award for the best performance in the Festival’s Nurt OFF. At the moment, Wach is working on a performance-installation RYLE.metamorphosis, which will concludes his scholarship programme. The performance covers the subject of miners’ sensitivity and summarizes the last six years of Wach’s life in Silesia.

 

Wach is an active creator of performance art. His first achievements were: shaved.01 presented at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (2012) and Horse Riding created in cooperation with Jozef Fruček (2013). His most important performance is me_fat (2014) about the contemporary beauty canons and ideals. The show was recognised and appreciated by the audience and critics. Its presentation during Pro_Contra festival in Szczecin provoked a heated discussion on body image.

 

In November 2014, he started cooperation with Przemek Jeżmirski and Joanna Wydra on a multidimensional project Transfer, a series of long-term performances streamed online and projected life in art galleries. In 2015, the artists showed their works in e.g. Katowice, Vienna and Warsaw (video presentation).

 

Wach is a laureate of a prestigious theatre award “Golden Mask” for choreography, which was presented to him by the Governor of Silesia. He also received a culture scholarship from the Governor (2015) and represented Poland during SoloDuo 2015 contest in Budapest.
